"I guess I could say with all this physical torment, the things I was hearing God say to me: ~Go through the narrow gate... ~For I have prepared a place for you and called you according to My purpose, for such a time as this... ~Trust Me! and don't let the physical or the spiritual dictate to you who you are.... ~Cast your cares on ME and I will not let you down..."Thoughts Dan shared a few days before he died....

This memorial website was created to remember our dearest Daniel Settlemier who was born in Oregon on February 11, 1963 and passed away on May 12, 2010. You will live forever in our memories and hearts.

Daniel George Settlemier, February 11, 1963-May 12, 2010
SALEM- Dan died Wednesday, May 12, following a brief illness.
He was born in Salem, Oregon to George E. and Judy (Bancroft) Settlemier and lived most of his life here.
He attended Englewood, Parrish, Walker and South Salem High Schools.
Following graduation in 1981, he joined the USMC and spent much of his enlistment on the USS Ranger, an aircraft carrier. The last position he held in the Marine Corps was as a chaplain's assistant.
Dan worked at a variety of jobs, mostly industrial. He was an accomplished painter of metal machinery and took pride in his work. His most recent and best job was at Wah Chang in Albany, until cutbacks brought it to an end last summer.
His passion was to ride his motorcycle with his Christian brothers and be a witness for the Lord. He loved to make people laugh and was a "clown" in the true sense. God gifted him with a beautiful voice and his music brought joy, especially to his church family.
Dan's children were the delight of his heart. Between them and his love of the Lord, he had everything he needed in life.
He will be missed more than he could ever have imagined. Along with his parents, Dan is survived by three children, Brittin Helene (Salem), Jensina Danielle (Arkansas) and George Login (Salem); sisters, Laurie and Dee; grandmother, Elaine VanWoert; many friends and extended family.
Memorial services were held at both the churches close to his heart - Court Street Christian, where he grew up and accepted the Lord, and Freedom Fellowship in Keizer - with pastors, Ben Bryson and Brad Putnam presiding. Donations in Dan's memory can be made to the American Cancer Society or to a fund that has been established to help Dan's children.
Contributions for Dan's Children can be sent to: Settlemier Children, c/o CSCC, 1699 Court St. NE, Salem, Oregon 97301  Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

Danny was my best buddy when we lived on D Street, just around the corner from their unique home on 15th Street.  I always wanted to climb up in that turret and look out the little windows ...

Danny was funny and energetic and unstoppable.  We sang and laughed and created all sorts of silly games during our hours of playing together.  I was a year ahead of him at Englewood Elementary, and I very proudly taught him how to write his name in cursive when he was still in 2nd grade.  He had the same third grade teacher that I did, a wonderful woman named Mrs. Jackie Hider, and I was really glad he also got to be in her classroom because I adored her.

The last time I saw Danny was on my wedding day in 1988, when he was no longer my playmate, but now a grown-up named Dan.  It was a blessing to see him again after so many years.  Heaven is all the more wonderful now that it has Dan's magical smile and quirky sense of humor in its midst.

Dan, it was so great to hear from you this last fall.  I have lots of fond memories, growing up as cousins - you always came up with the coolest games and adventures for your younger cousins.  You will be greatly missed.

Cousin Dan:  I sure do regret that I didn't get to see you last time I was in town.  We spent a lot of time together as kids, and grew up together.  I have so many memories, both good, and bad, that I could never list them here.  Thank you for bringing a smile to everyone's  face, and for being YOU no matter what life threw at you. Rest in Peace dear Cousin!!

Love from; Marty

Thankyou to all whom visit this site. Please leave a memory of Dan to share with others. A video of his memorial service will be posted here soon, so please come back.

Dan, it's hard to believe you are gone, but you will never be forgotten because you live on in our hearts. I'm really proud of you, that you were going to be a Pastor...you ran the race, you fought the good fight....

I will see you again soon, then we have all of eternity to catch up. Meanwhile, save me a spot.

To Dan's children: Login, Jensi and Brittin. I'm always here for you, if you should ever need me. If you need a place to live, an ear to listen, or a shoulder to cry on, call me any time, day or night, I'll always be here for you...xo

I remember you as "Danny Settlemeier" -- the handsome little boy with the beautiful brown eyes who was very kind! No matter how old you got, you were always kind, and you were full of joy. You grew not only into a fine man, obviously, but a man of faith, a man who loved his family, and served our country. I am very impressed, and I know the world is a bit dimmer for having lost you. You are very loved, and I am glad that I got to know you as a child, and see what a beautiful person you became. I am only sorry that you were lost too soon. But the loss is not felt by you - only by us that you left behind. For you are in the most wonderful place possible - the arms of our Lord! Yay! :)

To my children and me, Dan was always Danny, the funny kid who loved super man and was determined to run around the neighborhood dressed in table cloths or anything else that served as superman's costume (much to his dad's consternation) and who was full of energy and fun. We enjoyed him immensely. We lost contact with Dan as an adult except for a couple of occasions and I am sorry that happened. It is comforting to know that he is safe in the arms of our Lord and that we will all gather one day. God bless all the family, I know it is very hard to say goodbye to a cherished family member even when it is only for a season.

Dan.. we both miss you even though we did not get to see you very much when you became an adult.  As a child you always seemed to know how to make us laugh.  We have many memories that are too numerous to mention.  Always did love to hear you sing.  Your singing came straight from your heart.   You were very proud of the fact that you came from the pioneer Settlemier family.   Love you,  Aunt Marilyn & Uncle Dick
